      WRITING GUIDE

I. General Format

All papers must be between four and six pages long, typed and double-spaced, with 1-inch margins, in a 10 or 12 point font, and with page numbers. Papers that do not meet the minimum page requirement (defined as full pages typed in a standard format) will be penalized by five points per missing page.

Papers should be stapled and have a title page with your name and the name of your essay on it. The other pages of your paper should NOT include your name. PLEASE DO NOT TURN IN PAPERS WITH COVERS OF ANY SORT.

You must include a bibliography with your paper. If you do not, I will return your paper to you without a grade.

Carefully proofread papers for problems with spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Don't rely on spell checking to catch all of your mistakes-it can only discern misspelled words, not misused ones, so you should give the paper to a friend or classmate to read. If your paper is too riddled with errors, I will return it to you partially-read and ungraded.
